Fishing :: Sazan (carp)

This bronze, armored hero is a dream of every carp fisher. There are many sazans in the delta of Volga. There were caught sazans weighing from 3 till 20-30 pounds. Sazan fishing season continues from spring (from about middle of April – depends on air and water temperatures) till the fall of temperature in autumn in the end of October or beginning of November.

It is not easy to get the sazan, cause it will not let you come close. There is only one way to catch it – to come rowing quietly to the place you had fed before and to throw its favorite lure just near its nose with a float rod you use for a distant throwing. Such elegant method is not used often. Mostly real float fishing connoisseurs use it. Not everyone can manage with a strong fish caught by a thin fishing-line especially in the grass overgrowth.

Most of fishers use a sinker rod. They fish in places full of fish, standing against river stream, in holes. After a fisher has chosen a place he can start to fish. But it is better to throw a lure to two or three places before fishing. The sazan-fishing sinker rod is firm but not long (2,1-2,4 m) and provided with dough weighing 80-100 g. Choose a type of reel yourself: fixed-spool, multiplicatory or just ‘Nevskaya’. A fishing-line type should be basic (mono – 0,4-0,6, plaited – 0,25-0,3) and a snell always only soft plaited – 0,2-0,25, a sinker – 80-100 g, a carp fishing hook – sharp and balanced with a bait size.

The hook dimension should be chosen according to a big bait size (about 2/3 of its relative diameter). To have a successful fishing you need to throw food for fishes before, especially if you fish with big baits. In this case you should feed them not only with a corn, a cake and the cereals but also with the big baits. In such case the sazan will get used to new food.

The sazan is biting actively before spring tide in May and in high water in June. In sizzling heat of July it is may be one fish, which doesn’t care a straw and bites very actively. In spring and autumn it is easier to look for sazan in dibholes, backflow, near snags, washed away tree roots, steep kerb of bank. In summer you can find a whole flock of the sazans in the shallow creek near a reed, in the grass thicket of the shoreless feed of Caspian ‘rolls’.
