Underwater fishing :: Ide

After a pike and a roach an ide is the most frequent trophy of the underwater hunters in the freshwater reservoirs. It is a big and strong fish weighing more than eight pounds. Being on an arrow it fights for its life long and strong. Sometimes this fight is successful and if an arrow-head and a shot are not good fish ‘runs’ away.
Here is statistics of places where we caught ides: in grass – 60%, in bushes and winds – 35%, in moving flocks – 5%. In the very thick grass an ide is always ‘standing’ (though like any other fish) and ‘walks’ slowly between the seldom stalks of the spatterdocks and the can-docks. In the grass these fishes stay near the bottom but in the bushes, where their big flocks come they don’t keep such rule. It can happen that you will not shoot a one fish of such a flock. The flock ran away but don’t you despair. Swim down the stream and start to search carefully the underwater grass near you. You will find the hidden runners for sure.
The ide is a gregarious fish, so if you found one fish in the grass then look for its family very carefully. They must be somewhere here. At the same time this fish is independent enough. At least they run away apart in the different ways.
A flock of twelve two-pound ides is swimming fast between the seldom tufts of three meters high pondweed grown till the water surface. There are no bustling and sharp turns in their movements, which are so typical for the breams. They are strong and impetuous at the same time and look very beautiful, when they gather in the flock…
The ide meat color is different: white, straw-colored and yellow. It depends on a reservoir it lived and its food. We just constant this fact but can’t explain it. The boiled and fried ide is good, but hot smoking is better anyway.
